Summer nights and nightmares
Its summer again in England and as we have more hot nights, I am finding the nightmares are getting worse again; and no abuse survivor finds nightmares easy to cope with :(
I sort of understand why this happen, and in some ways that does enable me to find ways of coping with them a little better. What the brain expects when you go to sleep is for your body temp to drop slightly. The hotter your head temp the more active it becomes during sleep, just the same way people tend to have hallucinations when they are running a fever.
One of the first things I have done is to leave the bedroom window open until just before I go to sleep so the room is cooler. Next was to have the min amount of bedding that is required to remain comfortable.
I found cutting my hair so it was much shorter also help a great deal, as does keeping it well washed, as greasy hair will retain more heat.
Cut out the hot drinks at bed time, a chilled glass of water or coco will help far better in summer, and also avoid those late night snacks.
Here's to a good nights sleep.
